A mere three months ago, the word ‘Coronavirus’ was not a part of the national vocabulary. In the world of retail we were thinking about the impact of Brexit negotiations on our supply chain and how, as a small independent retail store, this would impact us.
However, since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic the virus has dominated news headlines and impacted all of us in large and small ways.
As a sector, retail has been hit hard, but has also risen to the challenge from grocery workers at the front line to luxury brands donating masks, gowns, hand sanitiser and repurposing factory lines to support government efforts.
Let’s talk about winter stock and the supply chain cycle.
How does this impact bob&lulu?
We place our Autumn/Winter (AW) orders at least six months in advance, which means we are planning our Winter footwear and clothing collections in January/February.
The manufacturers then begin making all the orders in February/March. This is of course the time the world began to effectively shut down this year. With all the manufacturing closed for production nothing was getting produced and when the world opened up again and the manufacturing did start to commence, they (like us all) had the social distancing guidelines to adhere to, so less people being able to work which means less products being made.
We also have a logistical issue to overcome.
The bulk of our stock comes from Europe and the shipping slots were booked up months in advance by medical/pharmaceutical companies, so (rightly so) we have had to wait as medical supplies take the priority.
What does this mean for bob&lulu and you – our lovely customer?
In a nutshell, stock has arrived later this season.
For example our beautiful Mintini children’s jackets are arriving end of September/beginning of October (these stunning jackets are worth the wait though)! Mayoral, our very popular Spanish clothing brand is arriving in the store at the moment and our AW footwear are beginning to arrive now too.
Does this mean that AW stock will be limited?
YES! The majority of our footwear orders across ALL brands have been reduced and although we currently have enough stock, it is unlikely that we will be able to receive “top up’s” from the brands.
What we recommend for our bob&lulu customers.
Our busiest time for selling Winter boots is in October, especially around the school October break, so for the best possible choice please do not leave it too late in the season this year as it is very unlikely we will be able to get stock “top up’s” once a brand and size sells out.
Make sure you are following us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/bobandluluAberdeen and Instagram https://www.instagram.com/bob_and_lulu_aberdeen/?hl=en as that’s where we announce new stock arrivals on a daily / weekly basis.
